Get to know English Club (EC) - FTU

What is English Club-FTU?

EC is one of many clubs in FTU, which was established in April, 2005 as a club for English lovers to share their love with English. With EC, students will not only study English but also have chance to use English in many activities, contests.

What are EC’s activities?

During the school year 2008 – 2009, EC held many activities with the theme “270 days around the world”. There were 7 Get together – small events, one medium – sized event “Front the Most” – The English MC Contest and one big – sized event “BeePro 2009”.

Get-together

Get together is an event held in Friday of every 2 weeks. Each event attracted approximately 70 – 80 students and guests. Attending the event, students had chance to widen up their knowledge about several countries in the world such as United States, United Kingdom, China. Moreover, they could also experience in many games like: acting, singing, cutting and clueing, and debating. This kind of event did provide a play ground for students to express themselves and gain some interesting things in return. Front The Most

Front the Most is an English MC Contest. At first, it was once dedicated to EC’s members but later it was opened for FTU students and other universities. This year, FTM drew more than 40 candidates. The contest consisted of 2 rounds. In the 1^stround candidates were required to prepare their own presentations about any related to the theme: “Make the world a better place”. 12 best candidates from the 1^st round were short – listed into the 2^nd round to truly deal with specific situations if they were MCs. FMT 2009 was so fantastic. It was reported in “Thế hệ tôi” and “Quà tặng Cuộc sống” in VTV6 as well as on many online newspapers like Dantri.com, Tuoitre, etc. More on FTM: Middle-sized events.

BeePro

BeePro is an Annual English Speaking Contest consisting of 3 rounds, which is dedicated to all students in Hanoi. BeePro is a competition for teams of 2; therefore, it challenges both the good command of English and the ability to work in a team of students. In comparison with “Spelling Bee” – the 1^st version of BeePro in 2007, it is improved much in not only quantity of teams applying but also quality of organizing from. This time, 108 teams applying came from various universities in Hanoi such as Hanoi University, National Economic University, Hanoi University of Science Society, Foreign Trade University, RMIT, etc. Thus, the competition’s diversity definitely increases. Many presses and correspondents were also interested in BeePro 2009. BeePro 2009 really marked another growth of EC in 2009. More on Bee Pro: Big events.

Curriculum Activities

Futhermore, EC held many other activities. Every Ecer had a chance to be trainned in IOGT in Soc Son Province. IOGT training taught people how to work in a team. With IOGT EC’s member really spent so much time all together. Additionally, every Saturday afternoon, Ecers had an English tutor to sharing knowledge of English. Besides, on EC’s website, there are many articles as well as threads for students to discuss what they want in English. EC’s website also provides many materials to help students to practice TOEFL, TOEIC online. Moreover, EC with other clubs like YRC together celebrated the Exchange Culture Day with Korean Students. That was a wonderful opportunity for Ecers to know more about Korean and YRC’s members.

This summer, Ecers were also busy with plans to make a sweet video clip. Wait and see it!

One year of EC closed with a wonderful trip to Thung Nai – Hoa Binh Province. There, once more time Ecers were “trainned” and shared such a secret. That was a memorable holiday.

The 270 day – flight of EC also temporary took off for another extraordinary year.
